The Fallen (2023-24)

“One need not be a chamber to be haunted,
One need not be a house;
The brain has corridors surpassing
Material place.”
—Emily Dickinson

The Fallen is a project centered on trauma and memory, emerging from an artistic inquiry into the profound and often concealed impacts of domestic violence and childhood trauma. It features a series of portraits that capture the essence of children engulfed in the aftermath of domestic violence, perpetually living in the grip of those harrowing moments, days, months, and years. Trapped within these frames, they linger, silently haunting the adults they eventually become. Interwoven with these portraits are representations of objects, spaces, and fragments of mental images.

The creation of these works employs Artbreeder, an AI tool that blends input images like ingredients in a recipe, in imaginative ways. This process mirrors the nature of memory itself, where fragmented, blurred, and often distorted details morph and merge, blending reality with imagination, clarity with obscurity.

This book of The Fallen pays homage to those haunted by past torment, honoring both survivors and those who succumb.

The book of The Fallen (8” x 10” softcover, 144 pages) is available for purchase.
